Network
Designed and built a client-side profile integrated search engine system to pursue more personalized and precise searching results by sending queries produced from user-defined profiles to the underlying search engines in parallel and merging the results returned.
Designed and implemented QoS support for web server clusters, providing a guaranteed quality of service, which represents guaranteed number of "normal sized" requests per second to customers, on Linux using C.
Implemented Mini-FTP transferring files with TCP and UDP, exploring the factors (e.g. packet size, buffer size etc) affecting the performance of UDP transfers on Solaris using C.
Database
Built online graduate students administration system on Sybase using Javascript, Java applet, HTML, and stored procedures.
Experimented the factors (like index, isolation level, etc) affecting the performance of transactions using Java.
Graphics
Implemented a non-photorealistic rendering method for pen-and-ink illustration style images.
